Getting Serious

There is a point in every project where the euphoria of a new idea begins to fade and obstacles become increasingly more difficult to overcome. At this point, it is essential to remember that persistence pays off in the end. Difficulties are part of the innovation process.

After your idea has been sketched out and initial prototypes have been attempted, it is essential to determine if the project merits additional effort and investment. Some ideas should be shelved until they produce better results, and others should be developed as quickly as possible. Either way, innovators should be mindful to be purposeful about each step in the development process.

When the project is worth pursuing, additional resources should be made available to make sure that the innovation is developed fully. Makerspaces, computer labs, and machine or woodworking shops are great choices for moving forward with an idea. Many of these spaces offer tools that make developing an idea much easier. Conversely such tools can contribute to Scope Creep if the innovators are not clear on the parameters of their project requirements and goals.
